Frequently Asked Questions

What is Method Hockey?

Method Hockey is a state of the art training center built to improve all athletes.  It is based upon the methods learned by former NHL player Jamie Lundmark during his playing years.

How is Method Hockey gym different from HPACT?

Method Hockey will have a traditional gym setting with exercise equipment and a track just like before.  But that’s where the comparison stops. MH will have state of the art Max Out equipment installed which is the same type of equipment being installed into Colleges and Professional Team’s gyms all over the country (Notre Dame and Pittsburgh Steelers being the 2 most recent).  Max Out focuses on eccentric movement and loads higher weight on an exercise on the way down and then strips the weight off on the way back up. This type of exercise has proven to increase strength and reduce injury much more than traditional lifting programs. Each athlete will also have a heart rate monitor and be earning points based upon how hard they are working in the gym.  With exercises designed for players of all ages, your player will love to compete for the most points. Every player regardless of age will have a strength/conditioning/agility program customized to the player to work on in our gym. Our methods are based upon team training programs that Jamie Lundmark used with the various professional teams he played on.

My child is too young to lift weights.  Why does he/she need the gym membership?

Our methods are designed for players from the youngest age to the professional.  Our methods will help your player become a better athlete regardless of their age (younger players will not be weight training but will have fun exercises to do that will increase strength, stamina and coordination)

We already have a gym membership, why should we join?

Our training methods, equipment and programs are entirely unique to our gym.  Most of the training done for hockey players will incorporate exercises with hockey equipment and in the gym during the same session.  It is our method to do both at the same time, making the other gym membership unnecessary.

What happens on the Hockey side of the center?

When you sign up for a session, your child will wear a heart rate monitor on their wrist.  They will receive points for fun exercises that they perform while competing with their friends in the gym.  They will then move to a stick handling station which will feel like an interactive video game that will track points for moving the puck with accuracy and speed.  The Rapid Hands machine will have your players competing against each other for the top score. Next they will move to our synthetic hockey rink. A smaller version of a full size rink, the player will play fun games designed to use USA Hockey’s model of working in tighter spaces to become a more efficient player. They will play games and work on skill on the synthetic rink. They will be dying to play 3 v 3 on the small rink.  Next your player will move to the Rapid Shot. This is another interactive game that your player will score points based upon shot speed, release speed, accuracy and more. If your player likes to play video games at home, he/she will love the feel of our hockey playground. Best of all, they will be receiving expert skill, knowledge and pointers from our professional coaching staff.

What if I just want lessons?

If a player needs 10,000 repetitions to become proficient at a skill it is unnecessary to have all of those repetitions with a coach.  We recommend taking a few lessons, classes and clinics with coaches and then working on those skills individually within the center (where a floor coach will still help them with anything they will be working on).

How long is the commitment for memberships?

You may cancel at any time with 30 days notice.

What’s special about the gym?

Max Out equipment is the latest state of the art equipment which will be used to make your athletes stronger and has shown to significantly reduce injury.  In addition, players will receive points based upon keeping their heart rate up (and within a healthy range) in the gym, competing against each other and themselves to improve performance.

Will my child have fun?

If your player likes to play video games at home, he/she will love the feel of our hockey playground and gym.  It will feel like an arcade, moonbounce center or trampoline park mixed together. Best of all, they will be receiving expert skill, knowledge and pointers from our professional coaching staff while they have fun.

Will Method Hockey be involved in the Jr Flyers and Team Philly evaluations at Ice Line?

Method Hockey’s professional staff will do independent analysis and be on the ice at every evaluation/tryout time for all Team Philly and Jr Flyers teams.  While no advantage will be given to any Method Hockey players, a coach will certainly look at a players dedication to becoming a better player and training on their own when making decisions for team selections.

How much Ice will be available?

It is our plan to have 10-15 hours of ice available each week as well as summer camps every week of the summer.  We will also have our realistic synthetic ice available over 80 hours per week.

How should my child use Method Hockey?

In season, come 30 minutes before or after practice and work on the skills that you can’t do in a team setting.  Come one other time per week with your team or come as much as you like. Weekends will mostly be focused on fun things for the kids to do in the center.   Your kids will love to come and play 3 v 3 on our synthetic rink or have shooting games/tournaments on the weekends. In the offseason, we will create a program to fit around your schedule and help your player improve their skills to be ready for the season.

What other programs are offered?

We are working on an after school programs where a student can come and get their homework done and get to have some fun up in the center.  We will also have “Night out” where you can drop your child off between 6-9 on Friday and Saturday night and go out. We will have skill specific clinics, lessons, and classes.  We will have summer day and weekly camps all summer long.

What is Night Out?

It is a program where you can drop your member off and go have a night on the town (or at the pub) and your child will be having a fun time up in the center with many activities planned.

The newest synthetic ice has built in lubricants that wear your skate blades in a similar fashion that skating on regular ice would.

What is Rapid Shot?

Rapid Shot is a shooting lane run by a computer program that will automatically feed you pucks and time your release, shot speed and shot accuracy on a goal and then assign you points based upon those metrics.  Rapid shot will compare your statistics to everyone in the world using a Rapid Shot machine. We will have games and tournaments on Rapid Shot in addition to our regular training on it.

What is Rapid Hands?

We will have games and tournaments on Rapid Hands in addition to our regular training on it.

Meet and greet events will be exclusively for Method Hockey members only.  We will also constantly provide guest speakers, and educational presentations for the benefit our our clients as well as parents.

Is it expensive?

See our hockey comparison chart for a true comparison of all costs involved with hockey.  On average, your player will pay $7-$20 per session assuming that they make the commitment to using our methods and training programs 3 times per week.  The memberships are designed at 3 levels based upon your players interest in the gym with an all inclusive membership bringing the best value if your player wants more individual coaching and time with our professional staff.

How can I fit this into my schedule?

Come 30 minutes before or after practice, with your teams designated time or any other time (including off days of school) during the week or weekend.

I do lessons with another coach at Ice Line.  Can I still do them?

Unfortunately, unless your coach is working with Method Hockey they will no longer be offering lessons at Ice Line.  We would be happy to pair you with another coach that is a good fit for you.

What Coaches are available?

Our staff coaches are Jamie Lundmark, Dave Bauer, Chris Campanale, Jean O’Neil, Jimmy Law, and Austin White.  We will offer every coach of Team Philly and of the Jr Flyers to come up and work with players on their teams at designated times as well.

Will any of my club fees pay for Method Hockey?

Method Hockey is so different from HPACT and the team training that was done before that we could not put the membership fees into your hockey tuition.  We felt it was better to offer everyone the option of getting a membership on their own.

What about team training?

How can a player/parent track progress?

Will there be video analysis?
